Shanmukhapriya Academy of Music was established in the month of Oct, 1996 in a very small scale and as of now, has completed 26 long years of musical training for dedicated and passionate students of Carnatic Music. The Academy consists of senior professors, performers and teachers from the music fraternity in Carnatic Vocal and Veena. The Academy, which is under the guidance of these experienced faculty with profound knowledge and expertise, will teach students from the basics to advanced level based on their passion and calibre in Carnatic Music. Accordingly,we impart professional training in Carnatic Vocal and Veena from Beginners to Advanced Level with the aim of providing a platform for musically inclined minds to nurture their talents.
The curriculum we have designed is very structured and is based on the GLS (Gurukula Learning System ®) model that promotes a diverse, dynamic and thorough learning environment. In addition to developing the innate musical talent in every student, we also focuses on holding on to the rich Cultural Heritage of India in Carnatic Music and Veena(the National Instrument of India). Our goal is to foster an environment where students with high aspirations are able to master traditional Indian Carnatic Vocal and Veena music through a creative and demanding curriculum. Our other divisions include learning of Vedas, Sanskrit and Yoga.
Gita Gōvindam / Ashtapadi is a Sringara Mahakāvya written by the 12th Century poet Jayadeva. Jayadeva, the lyrical genius was born at Kindubilwam in Bengal. This immortal Mahakāvya written in sonorous Sanskrit has left behind an enduring imprint about the composer's imagination. Each padam has eight stanzas and each stanza have a unique meaning that resonates with the soul. In his Gita Gōvinda, Jayadeva sings of sringara or love between the Jeevātma and Paramātma and its beauty, purity, and dynamic majesty. He has dived deep into the kingdom of love. Sri Krishna is the Paramātma and Rādha is the Jeevātma in Jayadeva's thoughts.
Gita Gōvindam is a magnificent drama in which three characters —Rādha, Sri Krishna, and Sakhi—appear periodically. The Sakhi is a representation of the Acharya who leads Rādha, the human soul or Jeevātma, through the moral path that would unite her with Bhagavān Krishna, the Paramātma. The Vedic hymns contain the concept of love between human soul or Jeevātma - the Nāyaki, in search of Nāyaka, the Universal Soul /Paramātma. This is termed as Madhura Bhakthi, which is the highest form of devotion. It is impossible to read or sing Gita Gōvindam without being enchanted, just like one cannot imagine Sri Krishna without Rādha.Gita Gōvindam must be learned by everyone who enjoys singing and finds joy in exploring divine love. It is an opera or dance drama where there is music, drama and dialogues.
